The molecule

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide — a fifteen amino acid sequence derived from a protein found in human gastric juice.

It's often described as stable in gastric acid, which is why oral administration gets discussed alongside injection.

What the research describes

In animal and cell studies: promotion of angiogenesis, dose-dependent increases in fibroblast migration, improved cell survival under oxidative stress via the FAK-paxillin pathway, and upregulation of growth hormone receptor in tendon fibroblasts.

A 2025 systematic review of its use in orthopaedic sports medicine found favourable animal safety and pharmacokinetic data, with human research limited to small pilot studies.

What it does not establish

There are no large published human randomised controlled trials establishing efficacy for tendon or ligament injury.

Mechanism is not outcome. A compound can do all of the above in a rat and still not change anything meaningful in a person.
